But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it.Now, since the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valleys, turn tomorrow and set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea."And the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,"How long shall this wicked congregation grumble against me? I have heard the grumblings of the people of Israel, which they grumble against me.Say to them, 'As I live, declares the Lord, what you have said in my hearing I will do to you:your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness, and of all your number, listed in the census from twenty years old and upward, who have grumbled against me,not one shall come into the land where I swore that I would make you dwell, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.But your little ones, who you said would become a prey, I will bring in, and they shall know the land that you have rejected. But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness. And your children shall be shepherds in the wilderness forty years and shall suffer for your faithlessness, until the last of your dead bodies lies in the wilderness.

Now if you kill this people as one man, then the nations who have heard your fame will say,'It is because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land that he swore to give to them that he has killed them in the wilderness.'And now, please let the power of the Lord be great as you have promised, saying,'The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.'Please pardon the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of your steadfast love, just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt until now."Then the Lord said, "I have pardoned, according to your word. But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord, none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice, shall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it.

Then all the congregation said to stone them with stones. But the glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting to all the people of Israel. And the Lord said to Moses, "How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them?I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they." Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?"And they said to one another, "Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt."Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the people of Israel. And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothesand said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, "The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land.If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey.Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them."

They answered him, "You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?" And they cast him out.Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"He answered, "And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?"Jesus said to him, "You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you."He said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind."Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, 'We see,' your guilt remains.

So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."He answered, "Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see."They said to him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"He answered them, "I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?"And they reviled him, saying, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from."The man answered, "Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes.We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."

Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see."Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.So they said again to the blind man, "What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight

So they said to him, "Then how were your eyes opened?"He answered, "The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed and received my sight." As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mudand said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing. The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, "Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?"Some said, "It is he." Others said, "No, but he is like him." He kept saying, "I am the man."

So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near Lebo-hamath.They went up into the Negeb and came to Hebron. Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)And they came to the Valley of Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they also brought some pomegranates and figs. That place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster that the people of Israel cut down from there. At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land. And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh. They brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. And they told him, "We came to the land to which you sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan."But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it."

When the cloud removed from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous. And Aaron said to Moses, "Oh, my lord, do not punish us because we have done foolishly and have sinned.Let her not be as one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes out of his mother's womb."And Moses cried to the Lord, "O God, please heal her—please."But the Lord said to Moses, "If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut outside the camp seven days, and after that she may be brought in again."So Miriam was shut outside the camp seven days, and the people did not set out on the march till Miriam was brought in again. After that the people set out from Hazeroth, and camped in the wilderness of Paran. Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman. And they said, "Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?" And the Lord heard it.Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth. And suddenly the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron and Miriam, "Come out, you three, to the tent of meeting." And the three of them came out.And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent and called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward. And he said, "Hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make myself known to him in a vision; I speak with him in a dream. Not so with my servant Moses. He is faithful in all my house. With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them, and he departed.

Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."The Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.'Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?"Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, 'He is our God.'But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word.Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad."So the Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?"Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father."They answered him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did,but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.You are doing the works your father did." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God."Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God."The Jews answered him, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?"Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge.

I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him."They did not understand that he had been speaking to them about the Father. So Jesus said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him."As he was saying these things, many believed in him.So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me.In your Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true.I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me."They said to him therefore, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.So he said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come."So the Jews said, "Will he kill himself, since he says, 'Where I am going, you cannot come'?"He said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins."

Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."]]The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midstthey said to him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?"This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her."And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.

"Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, O you who are of Israel's fountain!" There is Benjamin, the least of them, in the lead, the princes of Judah in their throng, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali. Summon your power, O God, the power, O God, by which you have worked for us. Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings shall bear gifts to you. Rebuke the beasts that dwell among the reeds, the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples. Trample underfoot those who lust after tribute; scatter the peoples who delight in war. Nobles shall come from Egypt; Cush shall hasten to stretch out her hands to God. O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; sing praises to the Lord, Selah to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice. Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!
