And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

Pulpit Comm: "The false English translation"fold," should be noticed. it conveys the idea of the rigid enclosure into which all the sheep should be gathered. It sustains the false pretension that outside the one "fold" of the Church the good Shepherd was not ready with his care and love. Christ carefully warned his disciples against such narrowness, and here he declares that the sheep, independently of the fold, may yet form one flock, under one Shepherd. Jesus described himself as the "Door of the sheep," and not the Door into the fold. He laid down his life to break down the partition between Jew and Gentile (Eph 2:13), God and man. There may be many folds.
