Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

"Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise),

"that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land."

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

God created every person with their own free will.
How do we honor dishonorable parents?
- Military - honor the uniform. May not respect the person, but just respect the rank. Same with parents.
- Job as a parent- TRANSFER DEPENDENCE FROM ME TO GOD
-John 19 - Jesus on cross- he says to John & Mary, man here is your mother, mother here is your son.
- give parents credit for what they did right
- release parents from their mistakes

-The best way to be a good parent is to be a good spouse
